Journalism Educators of Metropolitan Kansas City (JEMKC) is an organization whose purpose is to provide opportunities for collaboration, enrichment and development of high school journalism educators in the Kansas City metro area. JEMKC members have access to social events, professional learning community opportunities and contests for their students’ work.

One of our biggest conveniences for you is our website, JEMKC.org. Here you can find information about membership and current members, fill out your membership forms online and track your membership progress. Plus, find Executive Board contact information, teaching materials, event information, a list of member awards and all of your contest and scholarship details in one easy place.
Socials
We have a variety of activities for our professional community planned, including the continuation of Adviser Nights at schools around the metro to allow opportunities for collaboration and learning together. We also host a Fall get-together and our traditional brunch at Brio in January.
Contests
The JEMKC contest offers your staffs the opportunity to enter work in nearly 50 newspaper, website, yearbook, photography and broadcasting categories. In addition, more than $2,000 in scholarships are awarded.
New Members
We also have a special opportunity for NEW MEMBERS: one year of free membership! Come see all we have to offer and our hope is that after attending educational meet-ups and social gatherings and entering your students in our contests, you’ll be excited to be a member from here on out. All new members need to do is fill out the online membership form, and you’re good to go!
