March Update: Hello from at least six feet away

Hi JEMKC Members,

I think we all knew this was coming, but here is the official statement from the JEMKC Board regarding the 2020 Awards Ceremony.

We will be moving the 2020 Awards Ceremony to a virtual format. We are also rescheduling to an earlier time/date. We think everyone will have availability...#stayhomeKC... but will also be recording the meeting to share out with all advisers.

The 2020 JEMKC Awards Ceremony will now take place on Thursday, April 2nd at 3:00 pm. Advisers will receive a link to a Zoom meeting, which they are encouraged to share with their students.

Our virtual awards ceremony will feature key note speaker, Toriano Porter. He is a member of the KC Star Editorial Board. We are very appreciative of his time and support of scholastic journalism.

Follow him on Twitter: @torianoporter

Find out more about him: Toriano Porter Bio KC Star

We are asking that students have questions for Toriano. Please use this form:

Please submit all questions by Tuesday, March 31.

After students & advisers hear from Toriano, there will be a brief awards ceremony. JEMKC Board members will recognize all sweepstakes winners, and announce all scholarship recipients. The complete slideshow will not be played, but will be shared with all advisers at the conclusion of the virtual awards ceremony.

We are hoping to have an excellent virtual turn out! I mean...what else are you doing? Please encourage students to ask questions, show up, and be prepared to celebrate some pretty dang amazing kids and their work.
